Two hundred thirty-seven Columbus County children, representing six families and 12 child care centers and six family child care homes participated in a virtual holiday reindeer story time and craft event recently. The event, sponsored by the Smart Start Early Learning Facility (ELF), featured a holiday reindeer story time and grab and go craft packs.
The Smart Start Early Learning Facility is a lending library with over 3,500 resources available for members to borrow. These resources, which include books, DVDs, CDs, theme kits, etc., assist in the development of pre-literacy skills by promoting reading, writing, talking, singing, and playing for children ages birth to five. While the primary mission of the ELF is to strengthen and support early childhood professionals, parents, caregivers, and community members, the ELF staff also promotes the network of community service agencies operating throughout Columbus County.
The ELF staff is committed to meeting the needs of the community. For the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic, the staff will provide contactless curbside service and other remote and virtual activities for child care facilities. Families may pick up and drop off materials checked out from the ELF via the contactless procedures as well.
Call the ELF at 910-212-6352 for more information or to reserve resources and schedule contactless curbside services. Families may view available resources online and request selections by visiting www.ELF.rmwebopac.com.
